ROGLA 2013

Sigi and his fan in Rogla
by Borut Hribar

The Number 19

Nineteen years ago I was nineteen years of age when I became Junior World Champion in Rogla 1994. Yesterday I started the PGS on the same hill with bib number nineteen.

It was a great race with a perfect carving slope and carving course. The snow demanded for 100% carving which was great fun. I finished the race on 13th place after I got edged by French carving machine Sylvain Dufour.

Rogla 2013 was a race that brought a big smile on everyones face: The riders enjoyed the carve and the cheering of the crowd. This was a race which should be seen as a standard for World Cup races. Perfect snow and well prepared piste for carving in combination with a great course setting. Lots of people working and helping on the slope and all the Slovenian fans come to cheer their local riders – Hvala Rogla, hope you make a race next year again!

SEASON OPENING IN ITALY

WORLD CUP CAREZZA

World Cup Slope Carezza

Today I started my 19th season racing the World Cup at the PGS in South Tyrol’s Carezza. After curing my ACL-injury from last spring it was a really big challenge coming back – again!

I had two qualification runs with too many little mistakes and so I ended up on the unlucky 17th position right outside the qualification spots. That is pretty annoying on the one hand but not too bad for coming back of all these injury problems I had in the past years.

Starting to ride only by middle of October I certainly have to catch up on training days.

Every day I ride I get a better feeling and more confidence in my riding. So I am positive I will be back on top again – and I hope it will be soon!

Now it is time to enjoy some holidays with nice carving sessions for some good feeling on the edge. I wish you all nice Christmas Holidays, stay tuned!

GREAT SNOW IN ITALIA

Riding at Passo Furcia

Winter starts 🙂

These days I have been riding the great slopes of Passo Furcia / Plan Corones in Italy. The early winter snow and slope conditions are great here in the Dolomites. It is always a great experience to come here and carve the former race slope where we had WorldCup races until 2006/07.

READY FOR WINTER!

First promising days on snow

During the last weeks I have spent a couple of good days training on snow. A lot of freecarving as well as some gate riding brought back the smile on my face. After more than 6 months without snowboarding I am back in my world again enjoying every single ride. Now I hope for some snowfall and good conditions in early winter to prepare perfectly for the winter season.

MEETING UP WITH THE FAST GUYS

frtl: SG, Leon Camier, Broc Parkes, Vaclav Burger

Saturday Morning Bike Ride

It was probably the hottest weekend of this summer when I made a bike-ride up to Arcalis with two of the fastest guys on motorbikes on the Superbike-Tour. Leon Camier (Suzuki) from Great Britain and Broc Parkes (Honda) from Australia are both big names in Superbike and Super Cup racing. They are heading to their next race in Russia next weekend – well good luck guys!

MOUNTAINBIKING IN ANDORRA

Where Nature Meets Art

Tour de France monument at Arcalis

One of my favorite playgrounds in summer are the Pyrenees. Exploring the mountains of Andorra, Spain and France with my mountainbike is a major part of my summer training and preparations for the winter to come.

Especially this year after having my AC-ligament fixed in April biking is very important for my recovery. The tough vertical climbs are challenging and the high altitude does not make it easier.

4xDAKAR – CYRIL DESPRES BOOK FOR CHARITY

Cyril Depres’ book "4xDakar"

Monsieur Dakar

4-time Dakar winner Cyril Despres has written a book about his Dakar history. The French Rallye-star is one of the most successful riders on 2 wheels in the last decade of the world’s toughest Rallye.

I already bought my Andorran neighbour’s book to support his projekt "The Fabrizio and Cyril School" in Dakar. All profits of the book sales go to finance school for kids in Senegal.

You can get his book on Cyril’s website: http://www.cyrildespres.com

THERAPIE IM “ALTIS”

Happy "May-Day"!

2012 SEASON

A successful season ends painfully

After having my ankle fixed last May the 2012 comeback season was very satisfying. With a victory in Sudelfeld/GER I finally reached the top again after a long and difficult injury period. I finished the World Cup season in the Top-5 of the world ranking! But this nice comeback was suddenly stopped at last weekend’s Austrian championships where I had an unlucky crash in the PGS. I knew right away that my left knee suffered severe damage. A few hours later in hospital the doctor confirmed my suspicion. The diagnosis: torn AC ligament and torn meniscus. On Sunday, 1st of April early Morning Dr. Fink from Innsbruck made the surgery on my knee in the hospital of Rum.

The next weeks and months will be challenging. The most important is to become healthy and fit again soon: I want to be back on my board in autumn!
